How to use this map

  • Zoom in by double-clicking on the map or by using the +/- slider in the upper left.
  • Pan by clicking on the arrows above the slider, or by left-clicking and holding.
  • To learn more about any of the Hidden Gems proposal areas, click on the star in the center of that area. This will open a balloon with basic information about the area and a link to a complete description, map and photos.
  • Google Physical (a.k.a. Terrain) view is the default base layer. If you click on the little + sign in the upper right, you'll be able to choose between two other map views (possibly useful for choosing a driving route) and satellite view (pretty good for getting a better sense of topography if you zoom in close).
  • Also by clicking on the + sign in the upper right, you can turn overlays on and off. The default setting is to show the following layers: existing wilderness areas, clickable markers (InfoPoints), ownership (e.g., Forest Service, BLM) and roads (in red) and trails (in yellow).

Disclaimer

The Hidden Gems wilderness proposal is exactly that - a proposal - and this map is only a draft. A lot of work and careful thought has gone into it, but it should be regarded as a good starting point for discussions, not the final word. We are actively involved in open discussions with local citizens and interested stakeholders to refine the boundaries of the Hidden Gems proposal, and this map will be updated periodically to reflect any changes that result.

If you would like to meet with us in person about the proposal or any boundary issues, please feel free to contact us via the contact information provided on the About Us page.
